Celebrate the Year of the Goat with the 2027 1oz Lunar Series III Year of the Goat Gold Coin, an official release from The Perth Mint's acclaimed Lunar Series III collection. Continuing one of the world's most respected lunar coin programmes, this beautifully crafted gold coin honours the eighth animal of the Chinese zodiac through a design inspired by traditional Chinese culture and symbolism.
According to Chinese legend, the goat earned eighth place in the Emperor's Great Race through determination, kindness and cooperation. Combining Perth Mint craftsmanship with meaningful lunar symbolism, this release is a sought-after addition for collectors of precious metal coins, zodiac-themed issues and Lunar Series enthusiasts.
The reverse portrays a majestic goat standing proudly on a mountain plain, capturing the strength, determination and resilience associated with the Chinese Lunar Goat. Surrounding the goat are rugged natural landscapes, with a solitary tree visible in the distance, creating a striking and balanced composition. Also included in the design are the Chinese character for "Goat", the inscription "GOAT 2027", and The Perth Mint's iconic "P" mintmark.
The obverse features the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, together with the coin's weight, fineness and monetary denomination.
According to Chinese tradition, the goat travelled alongside the monkey and rooster in the Emperor's Great Race. Working together to overcome challenges, the trio crossed a wide river before the goat ultimately secured eighth place in the Chinese zodiac. Those born in 2027, 2015, 2003, 1991, 1979 and every twelfth preceding year are often admired for their artistic talents, resilience and ability to bring harmony to those around them.

The Goat is the eighth animal of the Chinese zodiac and is traditionally associated with gentleness, compassion, creativity and harmony. People born in a Year of the Goat are often described as thoughtful, artistic and calm, while the Goat itself can represent peacefulness and resilience.
The Year of the Goat occurs every 12 years in the Chinese lunar calendar. Goat years include 2027, 2015, 2003, 1991, 1979, 1967 and 1955. Because the Chinese zodiac follows the lunar calendar rather than the calendar year, people born in January or February should check the Lunar New Year date for their birth year to confirm their zodiac sign.
The Perth Mint has set a maximum mintage of 30,000 coins worldwide for the 2027 1oz Year of the Goat gold bullion coin. This maximum applies specifically to the 1oz gold bullion release within the Australian Lunar Series III programme.
