The Australian Gold Nugget is perhaps the most iconic Australian Gold Bullion coin. Starting from 1986 a new design has been produced every year, and the Australian Kangaroo being introduced to the design in 1989. Since then, the Gold Nugget has often been referred to as the Gold Kangaroo. The Australian Gold Kangaroo is one of the few legal tender gold coins worldwide that features a new deisgn every year.

The obverse of the coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The reverse portrays a kangaroo with a joey in its pouch, set against a styalized background of the Southern Cross constellation. Including the inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO’, the reverse incorporates The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark as well as the coin’s weight, purity and 2009 year-date.
